We have just completed the first couple of phases of interior refurbishment at my own Victorian terrace house in Worthing.
In the Living Room, we have painted the walls a deep flat matt green (Graham & Brown Adeline) to help complement the traditional room features like the cast-iron fire surround and the original plaster cornice. Next steps will include replacing the laminate flooring with better quality, more natural looking engineered timber flooring, and a wood-burning stove is being installed in January to make the room nice and cosy.
A gold sofa and gold trimmed mirror and lamp fittings help create a warming environment, ideal for relaxation on a winters day. The mid-century G-plan Astro coffee table creates a focal point, although the rug and the temporary TV stand both need to be replaced! A second sofa is planned and curtains will help finish off the space next year.
In the Master Bedroom, we have over-boarded and re-plastered the cracked Artex ceiling and added a simple perimeter cornice to apply some traditional detailing. The walls were in a terrible state, with peeling paint and cracks, but these have been sanded back, filled and covered with a reinforced fire lining paper, to remove 99% of the imperfections.
The décor features a bold pink colour scheme, with a horizontal change in colour at eye level providing a strong architectural statement. A minimal black bedframe and wall lights complement the original gas lamp on the chimney breast and new furniture is painted dark blue to help increase a feeling of warmth and cosiness.
Curtains and artwork on the walls will help soften the straight lines, along with further furniture to soften the space. The radiator will be painted pink to blend into the walls and a thorough window refurbishment is required to improve thermal efficiency. ``
in 2023, more extensive remodelling will take place, will cover a more thorough refurbishment of the bathroom and remodelling of the ground floor layout to connect the dining room and kitchen spaces to each other.
